It is never easy trying to find a balance between meeting customer demands and running a profitable business while protecting people and the environment.
Safety is an integral part of our business; it is a state of mind. This mind set ensures that safe work practices and a safe environment are taken into account with every job we perform. From our ongoing formal safety education and training, to our daily jobsite meetings. We try to protect the interests of our customers while ensuring the health and safety of our employees and the public. We are committed to continually improving our practices while providing a quality of work that is unmatched in the construction industry. Our foremen and safety coordinator are on constant observation of our employees’ behavior and performance in order to correct any on the spot issues which compromise safety.
The success of our safety program is made evident by our Experience Modification Rate (EMR), which compares our performance to that of similar companies in the industry. Our OSHA Recordable Incident Rate (RIR) is also significantly lower than industry average and those of our competitors, of which we have never had a serious injury or fatality. We are proud of our safety record. Through assisting employees in mastering job skills, our goal is to establish a work environment that promotes and supports excellence. Every employee has “stop work” authority. This means if something looks or feels unsafe, anyone has the right and responsibility to speak up. S&S is committed to maintaining these standards in order to obtain operational excellence. Employees at every level are responsible for observing health and safety requirements as they apply to their individual responsibilities. Our employees are well trained for emergency situations, emergency preparedness and planning.
Safe driving is a high priority and is never taken for granted. We test our drivers regularly to ensure they are up to our standards.
Drug Use is unacceptable. Drug testing is performed prior to hire and randomly throughout the year. Alcohol testing is also performed upon suspicion prior to beginning a work day, to insure the safety of everyone on site.
